Maybe I’m just picking up on coincidentally related elements, but to me this feels like the successor of the “high” video (and not merely just because both this song and high reference drug use as a metaphor.) To me, “high” is about craving- it’s about being in a state of withdrawal, longing for something while at the same time abstaining from it because of its nasty side effects. This song , meanwhile, is about the aftermath of succumbing to said temptations- a sense of being lost in time and space, of dissociating from identity. Both “tripping” and “high” explore the different sides of wanting something that’s bad for you- and the toll that it can take on the self.
The production of this is immense!
