Re: 2013 Oscan Nominations

Despite my love and fascination with movies, I've never followed any of the awards ceremonies. I find them overlong, over-hyped, and somewhat pretentious.

I haven't seen most of the movies listed, but I did see Lincoln and The Master, and there's not a doubt in my mind that Daniel Day-Lewis will receive the award for Best Actor. The man is a master at his craft unlike any other, and I enjoy seeing him perform in everything he's cast in. The Master was a good movie, but I felt that it could have ended at certain points in the film and not have gone on as long as it did. I was impressed by Joaquin Phoenix's performance, and I think Philip Seymour Hoffman has just a good a chance at winning Best Supporting Actor as Tommy Lee Jones, who I very much enjoyed as Thaddeus Stevens.

Re: 2013 Oscan Nominations

I see this list and I think to myself: I haven't seen any of these fucking movies and I won't give a fuck changing it. The only ones I've seen are "Snow White And The Huntsman" and "The Avengers"

Fuck it, I don't need any awards and shit. Only I decide for myself what's a good movie and what not

Re: 2013 Oscan Nominations

The Hobbit got robbed. It should be nominated not only for best picture of the year, but of the last 10 years.

How the fuck is The Expendables 2 not in the Best Pictures list? Was it so awesome, it is already the assumed Picture of the Year, and these are for the second best picture?

The Golden Raspberry Awards nominations are far more interesting. I'm rooting for Twilight to sweep.

Re: 2013 Oscan Nominations

Glad somebody posted a thread about the Oscars nominations. In any case here are my picks...

Best Picture
Amour. Though I have a strange feeling academy will give the win to Zero Dark Thirty.

Best Actor
Daniel Day-Lewis - Lincoln

Best Actress
Naomi Watts - The Impossible (Although Quvenzhane Wallis could make history come Oscar night. That would be so nice)

Best Supporting Actor
Alan Arkin - Argo

Best Supporting Actress
I'm going way out on a limb here, but I would vote for Helen Hunt for her performance in The Sessions

Best Director
Michael Haneke - Amour

Best Original Screenplay
Michael Haneke - Amour

Best Adapted Screenplay
Argo, Chris Terrio

BEST ANIMATED FEATURE
Wreck-It Ralph

BEST FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM
Amour

BEST ORIGINAL SONG
Skyfall - Skyfall

BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY
Robert Richardson - Django Unchained (I'm bein biased here since Bob Richardson is my fav cinematographer in the industry today, thus I think the academy will give the win to Roger Deakins finally. The guy's been in an Oscar drout for more then a decade)

Best Original Score
Mychael Danna - Life of Pi

BEST MAKEUP AND HAIRSTYLING
Hitchcock (The oscars will give it to The Hobbit doggystyle)

Achievement in production design
Les Misérables

Achievement in sound editing
Django Unchained - Wylie Stateman

Achievement in sound mixing
Andy Nelson, Gary Rydstrom and Ronald Judkins - Skyfall

Achievement in visual effects
Bill Westenhofer, Guillaume Rocheron, Erik-Jan De Boer and Donald R. Elliott - Life Of Pi

Best Costume Design
Eiko Ishioka - Mirror Mirror (I think the win will go to Paco Delgado costume design for Les Misérables)

Was disappointed the Oscars didn't nominate Cloud Atlas, maybe it will win best orginal song at Globes. Hope so.

Dirk, you forgot to list Best Film Editing. My pick goes to William Goldenberg - Argo

"Django Unchained" for Best Cinematography? HA! Nothing can touch "Life of Pi" in that department...

The Hobbit got robbed. It should be nominated not only for best picture of the year, but of the last 10 years.

A troll mod? That's new.

It was a big, bloated piece of shit.

Wow. If you're not interested in the Oscars, why the fuck would you come in to this thread, let alone comment on it?
