You have just unleashed Pandoras Box, are you ready? You better be.
All good or all bad is probably not something that can be applied to any group of people based on something like ethnic or religious backgrounds.There are good and bad elements in all groups and in fact in all individuals as well.
How's your view on Christians or Hindu's? Or how's your view on Americans or Europeans?. You feel where I'm going? There's no one group of muslims that are all the same. There not all terrorists or religious fanatics although Western media try hard to portray them as such.

Just like everyone else - You get your good and bad 
to my mind the keyword is religion
all wide-spread religions (do not know much about exotic ones) are stupid, misleading, and false by nature.
Islam is just as bad as any other religion, but, in opposite to others, it is much more strict with all its rules and laws. In fact christianity is also full of bullshit, and if christian church has as much influence on society they would also ban a lot of things, implement crazy laws and hypocrite rules.
So the problem is that in muslim countries religion has big importance. They have the real power, that's why life in muslim countries is so awful and crazy with all that burkas, paranjas, and other strict and stupid restrictions and censorship.
But you see: give more rights and power to any dumbass catholic preacher, and he will also be happy to ban everything that is related to erotism and sex, they will censor tv, magazines, music and so on. This is why there is no principal difference between different religions to me: they all want to ban, they all are hypocrite, they all are liars and bullshit-talkers. Islam is just more successfull in doing & imposing that religious bullshit and brainwashing.
As for the people... Well... poor people! Alas. It is brainwashing from the childhood. They are not guilty that they are upbringed in this way. But the result is often very sad: one more generation of brainwashed people who passionately (and agressively) believe in the crap they learn, and try to impose it on everyone else.
Example: in Europe, Canada and in any other countries they always try to bring their understanding of what is bad and what is good, try to make other people accept their values, their scheme of life. All that scandals with hijab-wearing, or wearing knifes (it was in Canada where muslim diaspora fights for their right for young boys to wear a knife - which is a weapon - just cuz it is their tradition, and they used to do it like that in their homeland)
But why they do not let europeans to behave like they want in their homeland? Even when there is a F-1 gran prix in Dubai, pilots have to use substitution of shampagne without alcohol to celebrate victory, cuz alchol is illegal. In some muslim countries even tourists MUST wear some kerchiefs and shoud never show their legs, no mini skirts etc. Why? Why we must accept women in hijab in european cities, if they do not want to accept girls in bikini in their muslim countries? Let it be equal. They say they have a right to wear like they want, they fight for the right to make a photos for the documents with headwear on, but could you imagine some girl in Saudi Arabia who fights for her right for topless suntan? They will kill her, I bet. And that sucks. They do not understand, that the term "offensive" is different for everyone. For me it is offensive to see females covered in black like ninjas, and girls who even swim dressed all over. It is so fucking offensive, that I want to... OK, I want to do the same shit they did when they saw offensive cartoons of Muhammed.
But again, this is just because Islam as a religion has much more influence on life in their countries than christianity or any other religion in any other country. In fact religion is a part of the government in muslim countries, it affects everyone and is very strong.

Tbh from what i understand in years before the whole 9/11 thing the Muslim community in the UK was probably the most law abiding citizens in the country, after 9/11 they're given hell for other's actions. It's just a shame that so many people will follow the media and some of the racist views others spout about their religion.

being a british muslim myself, i will be the first to admit that there are bad apples within our tree. However, I think that is more human nature than anything else, surely that occurs everywhere, from gender, race, religion, orientation etc.
Prior to 9/11, I was never subjected to any type of racism. Since 9/11 many of the fanatics become fanatics, not because of what Islam teaches, but becuase of brainwashing campaigns by cold heartless alleged religious people. I say 'alleged' purely because firstly, the Quran is written in arabic. bout 90% of these terror-esque muslims have never actually read the translated version in their own language, and instead go about following blindly to others warped interpretation.
I like to consider myself a law abiding, muslim, who appreciates his culture yet is integrated as part of British society. There are many misconceptions to Islam.
For the people that believe in religion, the Quran was revealed 1600 years ago. This is before, women had rights, whilst female babies were buried alive in Arabia, having slaves and concubines was acceptable throughout the planet. In short, the world 1600 years ago was not a human rights society. Islam actually made it illegal to have slaves, made it illegal to kill females and gave females a right to vote.
Furthermore, any one that has read the Quran will appreciate that it teaches peace, tolerance and love for all. It only EVER justifies violence in self defence. A quote which is repeated many times in the Quran "he who kills another human being, is the enemy of mankind". The alleged muslims who rely on the 'sword verse' use it way out of context as they have not fully read that chapter of the Quran. The infamous sword verse was a verse revealed during a war. I dont see this any different to how our 'great' western countries justify wars on so many nations.
The issue regarding 'the veil', is not an islamic issue, its a pre-islamic athiest arabia issue. Prior to Islam, the veil was forced upon women because pre the prophet time, women were treated as second class citizens. For anyone who has read the quran will appreciate, that whenever there is a reference to a male, the word 'female' is directly alongside it. i.e any rule/right that applies to a man, applies to a woman.
Re the knife issue mentioned above. I think my friend may be mistaken to the religion 'sikhism'. This is the first time I have heard of muslim culture where a boy has to wear a knife. I know for certain it is a Sikh tradition (part of the 5 k's). This I guess sums up alot, alot of people, not that its anyones fault, do not know what islam is, some take what they see too literally or start mixing culture with religion.
In short, Islam, when it was revealed introduced many rights in that era and taught peace. Unfortunately, many muslims this era forget the advances the religion made, the education and science which it spread and now take the religion too literally and get irratated when they are constantly provoked.
Unfortunately, every era has a group that are villified - jewish community, black community, now its the muslims turn, granted because of the messed up actions of a few. Im pretty certain, in a 100 years time it will be another group.

the dumbest thing about Islam (and Christianity, and Mormonism, etc.) is that people believe that some guy talked to God 1,000 years ago. well you know what? God talked to me last night and he said that Islam is full of shit and that the real messiah is that japanese guy that ate like 75 hotdogs in one minute.
