UN talks: Rich nations must make big emission cuts

Wealthy nations would commit to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the next decade, and the world should strive to nearly eliminate them - or at least cut them in half - by 2050 under a draft agreement circulated Friday at the U.N. climate talks.

The draft pulled together the main elements of a global pact that 192 nations have been negotiating for two years, but left numbers on financing and cutting greenhouse gas emissions - perhaps the most contentious bargaining issues - for world leaders to hammer out next week.

The UN needs to put a cork in it.

China is worse than America. China will not cut emissions.

No one needs to listen to the UN.

I'm not sure about in the US, but most European buisnesses manufacture most of their goods in china or india. I'd put a bet on it being the same in the US too. That is so that we get cheaper goods. From Nike Hats to Dildos!

If the west wants to manufacture it's own goods. Then India and China, would find cutting their emissions easier! But do you want to pay what the really cost of clothes, shoes, sport equipment, and so on? I doubt it. It's not as clean cut as you might think!

It wouldn't be that much. As long as companies weren't trying to increase prices for the sake of greed.

What do you think buisness is?

What's the hourly minimum wage in the US, or rather, what's an average factory workers monthly wage?

It doesn't matter what the minimum wage is, even at $20 an hour for an average employee,
CEOs make way too much money.

Especially if you compare it to the lowest workers at the company.

What does a CEO need with twenty million a year or more?

That's how buisness, and capitalism works, you're in danger of sounding like a socialist or even a commie! How much is an average monthly wage for a factory worker in the US?

Really? I'm against greed, not making a fair income.

Different factories, different wages.
You will have to look it up.

Ok then, what would $112 be like to live on a month? I'm against greed, I'm also against waste.

People should be able to live comfortably on $22 an hour if prices drop on some items.

If production of all products sold in the US were exclusively manufactured in the US, to avoid manufacturing abroad, the prices won't drop, they'll go up. You have to source materials, manufacture, package, deliver all products, and the rest, while paying a fair (minimum) wage to all workers in the chain. That will inevitably increase prices the consumer will have to pay.

Socialist!!!!

How did I know someone would think that...

Well, prices would have to drop some.

Some importing, but more products made here.

Higher tariffs on imports.

Prices wouldn't drop if production was exclusively US for US market.

China doesn't make products and market them in the US. US companies, design a product, go to China, buy/rent machines and a factory, get their product made for peanuts, and have them shipped to America to be sold at competative prices. So they're not really imports in that sense, unless they're food or some sort of resource.

Anyway, these products manufactured abroad are dirt cheap, I can't prove this with a link right now, but I'm pretty sure an average product is likely to make around 40% on each unit sold, and that's a conservative estimate, I know that some products will yield 75%, yet still be affordable.

When you say the boss earns too much, and it's unfair, so spread the wealth, that doesn't work, that's called communism. And the pyramid with the big earners that do less work at the top is called buisness, it is greedy by nature! However sometimes the boss of a big corporation will invest in charities and raise money, which isn't greedy, although sometimes they invest to make more money, and sometimes they fund political parties! What kind of companies are owned by those that support the republicans financially?

Not to mention the business / job unfriendly "crap -n- trade" scam that will be imposed upon businesses 'cross th fruited plain. :hammer: For who's pockets does this "carbon penalty revenue" fill ? better not say, I just finished lunch !
Crap -n- trade is purely "liberal capitalism": ! Steal it from those who have earned it and do so via the strong arm of government e.g. - "Algae", AKA Al gore and his buddies have formed a middleman / go between entity (or derivative similar to Enron) that does nothing but act as a brokerage between the producers and the consumers, leeches ! parasites OK !

and we were led to believe that money is the root of all evil

The reason why the climate change people are anti nukes is because they don't have AN IN in that sector, if you know what I mean. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ ha ha
