good post!
i usually write xmas just to shorten it up. I think the whole religion thing is overplayed, as christmas has become something WAY different than the original intention.
I don't know if it's me just being picky, but I hate it when people write Xmas on cards, in shop windows, and even on this site!
I am not overly religious, but people are "X-ing" out the true meaning of this time of year.
With all the hot debates about peoples different religions and views, thing like this massive Christian celebration really does p*ss me off.
I just keep hope that Xgiving and Xoween will catch on one of these days.
I am honestly not trying to offend you - but I think you are being picky.
Your life must be either pretty great or pretty awful to care so much about sometihing so trivial.
But I guess we all have our 'pet peeves'.
Merry X, er, Christmas.

No offence taken, but I don't think I am being picky!
I just feel that with the "text generation" will never know it is called Christmas - it will just be a thing of the past, and like mentioned earlier in this thread, proper written English is a rare thing these days!
PS, My life isn't great, but it isn't awful either!![]()
Texting is destroy children's minds and the English language.
not only the English language

X has been used from the start of Christianity , it's not a letter X it's the Greek letter Chi which is the same shape. A very common symbol in churches is the Chi/Rho one which begins to spell the name Christ.

The X shape also represents the Cross.
I fully agree about the use of text messaging language in everyday writing. It's lazy and disrespectful to the reader.
Fortunately it's BANNED in Freeones.
